SOUTH BEND — At a rally here on Saturday, Honeywell Aerospace, Bendix and Allied Signal retirees who lost health care benefits underscored how they’ve called on the administration of President Donald Trump for help.

The rally, held at the United Auto Workers Local 9 union hall, was part of a “Promises Broken Pickup Truck Tour” organized by Good Jobs Nation, a Washington, D.C.-based worker advocacy group.

Honeywell retirees highlighted how they visited Trump’s recent rallies in West Virginia, Minnesota and Illinois to call attention to their concerns. In addition to the issue of lost health insurance, they’re concerned about federal contractors offshoring American jobs.

In a prepared statement, retiree John Carter said a group attended Trump’s rallies to argue that “companies with huge federal contracts should not be stealing retiree health care and shipping good union jobs abroad. President Trump has the power to tell federal contractors to keep their hands off our health care benefits, but so far he has refused to tell Honeywell to respect its retirees.”

Honeywell’s decision to cut health care benefits affected about 4,700 retirees. They lost benefits at the end of July.
